Do you have to be a Tweedsmuir Ski Club member to use the ski and X-Country trails?
No, you can pay the Day Rate to use either the Ski Tow or Cross Country Trails. A membership gives you reduced rates at the ski hill, on the cross-country trails and the overnight cabin, and allows you to buy a season’s pass. See rates on our membership page.
How do you get from the East Branch parking lot to the overnight cabin or the ski hill and how far is it?
There are several ways; walk, ski or snowshoe, use a snowmobile or get a ride on a snowmobile. Most of the local snowmobiles arrive at 10 AM on the days the ski hill is open and will double people into the ski hill. It is approximately 3.5 km to the ski hill and most skiers/snowshoers take 45 minutes to get there.
Can you get warm and stay warm at the ski hill Roundhouse with small children?
Absolutely, if there is not a fire going, the materials are there to light the wood stove and keep warmed. There is no water source, but there is an outhouse.
I want to donate money to the club, how do I do that?
Small amounts can be put in to the donation box near the ski hill or at the Eastern Cross Country Trail Head. For larger amounts please donate directly to the South Tweedsmuir Park Enhancement Fund here. For amounts over $25 tax receipts will be emailed to you.
Is there cell coverage around East Branch?
No. The nearest cell coverage is down in the west end of the Bella Coola Valley, or there are pay phones at Anahim Lake, BC and Stuie, BC.
What is the best weather source to find out what the weather will be like at East Branch?
While there is no weather site right near East Branch, the closest similar conditions operated by Environment Canada would be Puntzi Mountain or Tatlayoko Lake. The Ministry of Transportation & Highways web cam for Anahim Lake is also useful, but East Branch will generally be snowier than Anahim and much colder than the Environment Canada Bella Coola weather. See the side bar for weather links.
Are there any services at the East Branch area?
No, except for an outhouse in the parking lot, one at the Eastern Cross Country Trail Head and the Ski Hill, there are no other services of any kind unless you go to Anahim Lake or Bella Coola. You need to come prepared.
I haven't cross country skied for years, but I want to get back into it, but need some tips about skiing, gear and the area, what should I do?
There is a dedicated group of enthusiasts who ski every Sunday and usually one other day, they meet at the Eastern Cross Country Trailhead location around 11 AM. Get yourself some gear, if you have waxable skis, bring all your wax and they will help you sort out what to do or where to go. If you would like to contact one of these people in advance send an email to the Tweedsmuir Ski Club address listed on the front page and we will put you in touch with them.
